ARHAI Scotland are pleased to announce the launch of the revised Transmission-Based Precautions (TBP) guidance in the National Infection Prevention and Control Manual (NIPCM) and the Care Home Infection Prevention and Control Manual (CHIPCM).
This important national guidance change – the first globally – is the result of a 4-year project that started in 2022 with the update to the TBP Definitions systematic literature review, after which an extraordinary working group developed recommendations for practice.
The terms ‘droplet’ and ‘airborne’ are no longer in use and instead, transmission routes are now described as Contact and Air transmission. This update reflects the latest evidence base and supports health and care staff to consider a range of factors when applying TBPs.
