Advisory Board

The Hon Ted Baillieu AO served as Premier of Victoria and Minister for the Arts from 2010 to 2013. He was a member of the Victorian Legislative Assembly from 1999 to 2014, representing the electorate of Hawthorn, and in 2006 was elected leader of the Victorian Liberal Party.

He is an Adjunct Professor at Swinburne University School of Design, and Melbourne University’s Honorary Enterprise Professor associated with the Faculty of Architecture, Building & Planning.

Mr Baillieu Co-Chaired the Victorian Government’s Cladding Task Force (2017-2019), and Chaired the Victorian Government’s ANZAC Centenary Committee (2013-2019).

He is a Life Fellow of the Australian Institute of Architects, Fellow of the Chief of Staff Association and Patron of several organisations including Multicultural Arts Victoria, Public Record Office of Victoria, The Sovereign Hill Museums Association, Queenscliffe Historical Museum, Friends of Auburn Uniting Church Tower, HMAS Castlemaine, Australia India Chamber of Commerce and Africause.

He is Chieftain of the Victorian Highland Pipe Band Association and a Member of the Selection Panels for the Rhodes Scholarship and John Monash Foundation Scholars.

Mr Baillieu joined the Committee of the Melbourne Cricket Club in 2017. In 2021 he was appointed Chair of the Australian Heritage Council and joined the Board of the Australia India Institute.

Formerly Mr Baillieu was a Trustee of the Melbourne Exhibition and Convention Centre Trust and Board Member of the Australia-India Council, Tourism Victoria and the Australian Children’s’ Television Foundation. He was awarded an Honorary Doctorate by Swinburne University in 2022 and appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) in 2020 for his service to the people and Parliament of Victoria and to international engagement.

Kate Cole OAM is a multiple award-winning scientist & engineer who has made disease prevention from airborne hazards her primary area of interest. She is a Winston Churchill Fellow, a past President of the Australian Institute of Occupational Hygienists and is often called upon to provide her expert opinion on the prevention of work-related disease. In recognition of her outstanding contributions to workplace health and safety, Kate was awarded the Medal (OAM) of the Order of Australia and was included in the Covid-19 Honour Roll in the 2022 Australia Day Honours.

Professor Brendan Crabb AC PhD FAA FAHMS FASM is a molecular biologist and infectious disease researcher with a special interest in malaria. He has been the Director and CEO of Burnet Institute since 2008. Prof Crabb is also Chair of the Australian Global Health Alliance and the Pacific Friends of Global Health.

Burnet is a research institute and international NGO with a focus on infectious diseases, health security and pandemics, and maternal, child and adolescent health. Burnet’s vision is a more equitable world through better health.

Burnet and Prof Crabb played a major role in the COVID-19 pandemic through modelling, research, advising the community and governments and advocating for public health action.

In recent times, he has been a key driver in advancing science and implementing standards for indoor air quality standards helping facilitate engagement across government, industry, research, and community sectors.

He is a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Science and the Australian Academy of Health and Medical Sciences. In 2015, he was awarded a Companion of the Order of Australia.

Barbara Finlayson-Pitts is UCI Distinguished Professor Emerita and Professor of Chemistry Recalled at the University of California, Irvine (UCI). Her research has focused on a number of important reactions that impact air quality, health and climate, especially those involving the formation, growth and reactions of particles. A current interest is non-tailpipe emissions from vehicle brakes and tires. She has coauthored more than 200 scientific publications and two books in the area of atmospheric chemistry. Dr. Finlayson-Pitts’ research has been recognized by a number of awards including the American Chemistry Society Award for Creative Advances in Environmental Science & Technology and the Environment Prize of the Royal Society of Chemistry. She is an elected member of the American Academy of Arts & Sciences and the National Academy of Sciences.

Matthew has over twenty-five years of experience in the NSW Government, including more than a decade as a senior executive. He has delivered nationally-significant, multi-million dollar programs in regional climate modelling, climate change impacts and adaptation, greenhouse gas emissions mitigation, and air quality monitoring and forecasting. His advice and guidance has shaped NSW strategies for net zero emissions, climate risk and resilience, climate change adaptation, and clean air. He has held numerous advisory roles and board positions including: National Computation Infrastructure (NCI), ARC Centre of Excellence for Climate Extremes, NSW Chief Scientist & Engineer’s Advisory Committee on Tunnel Air Quality, National Air Technical Advisory Group (NATAG), and the National Environmental Science Programme Clean Air and Urban Landscapes Hub. He is a Certified Air Quality Professional (CAQP), Fellow of the Australian Institute of Energy (FAIE), and an Executive of the Clean Air Society of Australia and New Zealand.
