Dive into the next installment of our “Science for Action: Changing the World in Small Steps” lecture series, with Professor Brendan Crabb AC , CEO of the Burnet Institute, who shares a compelling story of how the COVID-19 pandemic inspired his shift towards prioritizing indoor air quality.
The pandemic has left a devastating mark worldwide, now in its fifth year. With an estimated 3.5 million deaths last year alone, and 6-7 million the year before, the urgency to address indoor air quality has never been greater. Drawing a powerful parallel to the work of John Snow (1813-1858), who demonstrated the link between cholera and contaminated drinking water. Despite this breakthrough, it took 60 years for chlorination of water to be implemented in the area where he made the discovery. In this lecture, part of our Science for Action series, Professor Crabb emphasizes the need to seize momentum created by COVID-19 to drive the indoor air quality movement forward, he argues that with the research and catalysts we have now, there’s an opportunity to make lasting changes that will save lives.
This lecture took place at the Queensland University of Technology on 18 July 2024.
